Trinity River Summer 36x60

This is a big one. I grew up on this river and wanted to tell the story of summer. I can't imagine a better place to have spent my childhood. It will always be a part of me.

Sunset Ship 12x18 oil on panel

This was done from a photograph. It was so back lit by blinding sunlight  that I couldn't even look at it or photo it. So I took my polarized sunglasses ond put them in front of the camera lens. It turned out in these amber tones. I liked it. So I painted it.

Old Flatbed 18x24 oil on panel

While on the subject of the California Art Club Show this one was selected in the open category. Love old truck and snow could not resist this one
The North Fork   9x12 oil on panel

This was a hot summer day on the north Fork of the Trinity  This wild river is one of my favorite places. I painted this standing knee deep in the water to stay cool. This painting has been selected to the 103rd California Art Club Show in the small works category
Fog Island 9x12 oil on panel

Plein Air painting in the fog has its challenges. It is exiting though as things come in and go out of the haze. The trick is not to chase them or you spend the whole day changing things.

Humboldt Bay 18 x36 oil on linen

I know you rugged souls who have stayed around this long to see if I am ever going to post anything new have heard this before but I am going to make an effort to keep up on this Here is a Studio work from a photograph. Some scenes the light is so fleeting that it is impossible to do anything of even moderate size.

Powers of Spring

Same day up on Kneeland after the sun came out then started to go away again. I like doing these little guys It seems like you can grab a moment out of the air and hold it for a little while.

Kneeland

Fogged in this morning I thought I would try Kneeland haven't been up there for a while. Always like the open spaces the clouds were doing some good stuff for a while of course when I started this of the clouds it started to clear up. I was nice for later but I stayed the course I know better than to chase it around. I have spent a whole day painting the changing weather.

Mad River

My desktop computer where I do just about everything cyber related is not feeling up to par so I am teaching my laptop how to do some of this stuff. Yes I did get caught painting off the bridge in blue lake. It is great to live in a place where the only danger is caused by all the people who stop to BS with you. I thought I busted and going to have to leave when an official looking rig slowed to a stop and backed up. But it turned out to be a buddy I went to high school with. Here is the effort on that cloudy day. Regardless of what I think of the painting I a have to post it now after telling the story.
